About CEMEVIE

Modelling the value state through information and expectation

CEMEVIE models the value state as a global, latent, probabilistic and dynamic state arising from the superposition and coupled evolution of available information and expectation—the anticipatory potential that remains around an event, object or decision. Through a triadic architecture of Concepts, Observables and Methods of measurement (COMs), the Centre develops and tests explainable measures of the value–valuation continuum to identify transitions, divergences and errors, inform decisions, and reduce risk across physical, digital and living environments.

Real estate and territories provide a particularly rich first field of application because value arises jointly from physical characteristics, uses, location, infrastructure, institutions, expectations and public action. The same architecture can then be tested in digital environments, cognition, health, art and living settings.

Scientific principle

The work does not ask for belief; it aims to make its hypotheses measurable, testable and falsifiable.

Emergent value, one state

The English name Emergent Value from Information and Expectation does not place three states side by side. It denotes the single global probabilistic value state produced by the coupled dynamics of information and expectation. In the model, for the same event or object, increasing information reduces residual expectation; in the limit of complete information, the state approaches knowledge, whereas minimal information leaves maximal uncertainty. Between these limits lies a continuum requiring renewed estimation.

What the Centre does

“CEMEVIE”: modelling and sowing life

The name combines a modelling mandate with the French resonance of semer vie—to sow life: making measurable the value states that connect matter, information and living systems in support of more sustainable, inclusive and human living environments.

A light and collaborative structure

CEMEVIE favours targeted collaborations with universities, municipalities, public agencies, professional associations, community organizations and responsible actors in real estate, urban development, digital systems and health. Projects may include applied studies, workshops, public dialogues, policy notes, methodological guides, exploratory dashboards and pilot projects.

Leadership

Ünsal Özdilek, Ph.D., is a Full Professor at ESG UQAM and Director of CEMEVIE. His work addresses value and valuation, real estate, markets and territories, spatial modelling, digital transformations of living environments, cognition and decision-support systems. He has led and developed university programmes in real estate at UQAM for more than twenty years.
